A study is reported on the effect of five different concentrations of bovine plasma albumin on the response of spayed mice to the intravaginal administration of various levels of oestrone. The advantage of a factorial design in such tests is stressed.
While concentrations of 0·001% bovine plasma albumin were without appreciable effect on the dose-response line, progressive increases in cencentration caused corresponding decreases in slope.
The effect of bovine plasma albumin on E.D.90 doses was small, but increases in albumin concentration caused rapid increases in response to small doses of oestrone.
The significance of these findings is discussed in relation to the mode of action of oestrogens.
