The present communication deals with an adult Sprague—Dawley rat, presumed to be a female, which was accidentally discovered to exhibit the lordosis reflex for several consecutive evenings. This animal had not been subjected to previous experimental manipulation. It was decided to quantify the lordosis behaviour displayed by placing the animal in a cage with an active male until ejaculation occurred. The copulatory quotient (lordoses/male mounts x 100) was calculated to be 94% on the basis of tests on seven successive evenings. Ordinarily, females from this colony have a copulatory quotient of about 70% when they are in oestrus. The animal was attractive to all males with which it was paired, as attested by the fact that ejaculation occurred in every test within 7 min. The hopping and darting activity seen in normal, sexually receptive females was exhibited by this animal throughout the testing period.
